Abstract
Purpose: The purpose of this study was to establish basic data for the efficient development of curriculum to ophthalmic optics students and industry for the curriculum in ophthalmic optics.
Methods: 183 students who have studied in Gyeonggi province and 123 optometrists who have worked in the optical industry were surveyed in the satisfaction of curriculum and statistical analyzed the results.
Results: The curriculum in ophthalmic optics is classified into five categories. The tool used to measure the satisfaction of curriculum was a 5-point Likert scale. The satisfaction of the two groups showed a similar trend(students: 16.44¡¾2.66, industry: 16.47¡¾3.38). The satisfaction of theoretical education was the highest level to the students(3.87¡¾0.74) and industry(3.82¡¾0.68). On the contrary, the satisfaction of foreign language education and character education were the lowest level to the two groups. The student¡¯s group displayed significant differences of satisfaction with regard to education of theories(p<0.01) and practices(p<0.05) according to gender. The industry group displayed significant differences of satisfaction with regard to education of theories(p<0.01) according to workplace.
Conclusions: For the sake of promoting the eligible optometrists as time changes, it is necessary to develop the ophthalmic optics curriculum which is reflecting the satisfaction and needs of students and optometrists consistently.
